Folding Electric Scooter FAQs

Are electric scooters safe?

For the most part, electric scooters are a fairly safe mode of transport, but it can vary quite a bit between models. The range of engine power, top speeds, addition of comfort features like shock absorbers and double suspension, and tire and frame build among other factors is quite large, and the safety of each model therefore is variable. The safest models will generally be the ones with high weight capacities, airless or non-pneumatic tires that don’t deflate and won’t pop suddenly, double-braking or other high-tech braking systems, and modest top speeds (10-15mph), and double suspensions or suspensions with shock absorbers to ensure smooth rides.

How do you maintain an electric scooter?

Electric scooters are relatively easy to maintain and don’t require the attention a car or a motorcycle does. There are a handful of things you can do that don’t require any expertise in order to keep your scooter running smoothly and give it a longer life:

1.Charge your battery up to a full charge after each trip to increase its life

2.Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and dust

3.Keep tires filled to recommended pressure to avoid taxing the motor more than necessary

4.Unless designed specifically to be rain and water safe, avoid riding in wet conditions

Can I ride an electric scooter in the rain?

It’s not always clear from product descriptions whether it’s safe to ride your scooter in the rain. Exposed mechanical parts and electronics can be vulnerable to water damage, and not all wheels are ideal for navigating slippery streets. Some scooters are designed specifically to be waterproof or water-resistant, and these scooters will generally list such a feature in product descriptions- however not even scooters that are listed as water proof are necessarily rain-safe. It should always be assumed that any scooter you’re looking at is neither unless specifically described by the manufacturer as such.

How reliable are foldable electric scooters?

Electric scooters in general are fairly reliable modes of regular transport, depending partially upon the conditions they’re regularly driven under and the quality of the scooter, obviously. Foldable scooters- which comprise the majority of consumer and battery-powered scooters on the market- aren’t inherently any less reliable or prone to breakdowns than most less portable models. For electric scooters, the average distance travelled before a repair is needed is 542 miles or every 6.5 months. That doesn’t mean that your scooter is guaranteed to need repairs every half year, however, and with proper maintenance and safe riding in reasonable conditions, an electric scooter can go on much longer without the need of professional repair.
